FAQs
1. What is water dust suppression?
Water dust suppression is the use of water to manage high levels of dust. It dampens the air to reduce dust particles in the environment and to prevent you from breathing in large quantities. Water suppression is also an advantage when using a disc cutter, as it cools the blade and extends the lifespan of both the blade and the saw.
Dust suppression is a legal requirement on construction sites for health and safety compliance due to harmful dust particles in masonry materials such as silica dust.
The R260DCT-Li, R300DCT+ and the R350DCT models all feature water suppression.
2. Is Dust Suppression a Legal Requirement
Yes, for employers on a jobsite, they have to meet certain requirements to be HSE compliant. Visit the HSE website for more information.
3. Why use water suppression?
Cutting concrete, bricks, paving, kerbs and other masonry materials can produce high levels of airborne dust. Many of these materials contain crystalline silica, which can be broken into extremely fine respirable crystalline silica particles during cutting. These particles can penetrate deep into the lungs and prolonged exposure is associated with serious conditions including silicosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and lung cancer.
Water suppression delivers water to the cutting area to dampen dust as it is created, reducing the amount that becomes airborne. The HSE recommends using a cut-off saw with a water-suppression attachment connected to a pressurised water supply when cutting paving, blocks and kerbs.
Water must be supplied throughout the cut to work effectively. Appropriate respiratory protective equipment and other control measures may also be required; always follow the tool instructions and current HSE guidance.
4. Are the Evolution Dust Suppression Water Bottles Universal?
Yes, both our hand and foot pump water bottles come with a universal hose connector that is compatible with many other brands.
5. Which Evolution Disc cutters feature water dust suppression?
Both the R350DCT and the cordless battery-powered R260DCT-Li feature our new automatic water feed valve for the most efficient dust suppression. The automatic valve lets the water flow as soon as the blade starts spinning and cuts the water off when you release the power. There's also an independent flow rate control valve, so you can 'set and forget', meaning you can concentrate on your cuts.
The Evolution R300DCT+ includes dual-sided water-fed dust suppression, but not our automatic on/off feature.
All Evolution Disc Cutters that provide water dust suppression connect to a hose or pressurised bottle and use brass fittings for durability.
