FAQs
1. What can a Disc Cutter Blade cut?
Evolution Disc Cutters use diamond saw blades which are designed to cut through brick, stone, granite and even some strong metals,
General Purpose Diamond Blades, Premium Diamond Blades and EvoMax Thin-Kerf Diamond Blades are designed to cut:
Bricks and blocks, including engineering brick, roof tiles, cured and reinforced concrete and soft natural stone, including paving slabs, limestone and sandstone
For Hard quartz-based stone choose either Premium Diamond Blades or EvoMax Thin Kerf Diamond Blades.
Choose our Multi-Material Diamond Blades for outstanding results when cutting iron, steel & stainless steel, aluminium, wood, plastic (including reinforced plastic) and abrasive material.
If cutting porcelain tiles, we would advise using our R260DCT-Li battery-powered disc cutter and our EvoMax Think Kerf Blade. The manufacturing process makes porcelain tile brittle and easy to crack when cutting. Wet tile cutting is recommended for porcelain tiles, as it helps to reduce chipping and breakage
2. How often should I replace my Disc Cutter blade?
A cutting disc on a disc cutter should be replaced when it shows signs of wear and tear, when cutting performance drops or when it reaches its expiration date. It's important to check your cutting disc regularly.
Signs of a worn out disc:
Reduced cutting speed: If you notice the disc is taking longer to cut through materials, it's likely worn out.- Increased vibration or wobble: A worn disc may wobble or vibrate excessively during use, making it harder to control and potentially dangerous.
- Visual damage: Cracks, chips, missing segments, or an uneven surface are clear indicators that the disc needs replacing.
- Smooth edge: A worn blade will have a smooth edge rather than a sharp, toothed edge.
- Expired validity date: Diamond discs typically have a validity date stamped on them, and should not be used after this date.
- Diamond blades typically last 12–120 hours, depending on material and usage. Cutting harder materials like concrete, and dry cutting, tends to wear down the blades faster.
3. Are diamond blades made from real diamonds?
No. Diamond blades use incredibly tough synthetic diamond shards, which are moulded to the blade and blade edges to create an extremely sharp cutting tool capable of cutting through the most rugged materials with ease and precision.
4. Are Evolution disc cutter blades compatible with other brands saws?
Many Evolution blades fit other disc cutters, but always check arbor size, blade diameter, and safety ratings.
For best performance and warranty coverage, use Evolution blades with Evolution tools.
R230DCT, R255DCT, R250DCT-Li: 22.2mm arbor
R300DCT & R300DCT+, R350DCT: Reversible flange mount for 20mm and 22.2mm blades
5. Can diamond blades cut through anything?
Diamond blades can cut through most hard materials, but certain blades are more suited to cutting through specific materials. For example, one diamond blade might be suited to cutting through stone, rather than metals. Whereas another diamond blade could cut through metals easily. There are even some diamond blades that can but through steel, but many diamond blades would struggle. Using the wrong blade with the wrong material will dull the blade quicker.
Always refer to the manufacturer's guidance on what materials you should cut with specific blades if you’re unsure. Speak to an Evolution expert, we’d be happy to help.
6. Do diamond blades last forever?
Diamond blades do not last forever. Like all other blades, they’ll eventually need to be replaced after they’ve been used to their limits. However, diamond blades are incredibly tough, reliable and long-lasting. Depending on the material being cut, diamond blades generally last between 12 and 120 hours. On the higher end, this gives you plenty of time to cut through tough materials before your blade needs to be replaced.
7. Should you cut wood using a diamond blade?
It’s possible, but not recommended to cut through wood with a diamond blade. Diamond blades are most suited to cutting through very tough materials, like stone and brick. Wood is a lot softer than these materials and will offer very little resistance. The force of the blade would likely cause damage to the wood rather than a clean cut, as well as cause other safety concerns. You should always use the correct blade for the job at hand. We also stock multi-material cutting diamond blades for our disc cutters, which are ideal for cutting a host of different materials such as metal, concrete and more.
