FAQs

What can you use a Table Saw for?

Table Saws are widely used for cutting long, large, heavy pieces of wood or other materials in straight lines accurately - but they can handle smaller pieces, too. The balance and durability they offer are perfect for turning huge cutting jobs into easy-to-manage pieces of work.

How does a Table Saw work?

Once the blade reaches full speed, the user will guide the material into the blade along the desired path, keeping their hands well clear of the blade at all times, until the cut is complete. A tool called a push stick can be used to ensure the user’s fingers never come close to the blade. The blade can also be adjusted in height, depending on the material you’re using.

Are Table Saws good for DIY?

Absolutely. They do great work for both professionals and DIY fans. If you have a larger piece of wood you need to cut quickly, accurately, and with full control, a table saw is an excellent choice.

What advantages do Table Saws have?

The base of the table saw offers more stability than you would find with some other saws, allowing users to gently move their materials into the blade as needed. They’re also far more powerful than some hand-based tools you might be used to using. Some Evolution models even feature wheels for great portability between sites and jobs.

Should I buy a Table Saw or Mitre Saw?

Buy a Table Saw if you are planning on making long straight cuts in sheet material or need to make smaller Bevel and Mitre cuts. Buy a Mitre Saw if you are making straight or angled cuts in square or rectangular workpieces up to 12 inches in size.

Who needs a Table Saw?

Anyone who wants to cut sheet material and requires a workhorse saw that can cut through almost any material needs a Table Saw.

What would I use a Table Saw for?

A Table Saw is the correct tool for making angled or straight cuts into a workpiece. It’s the right tool for cutting full length flat sided sheetsand also for squaring/facing off smaller workpieces. You could use a Table Saw for almost any interior woodwork job, flooring, framing, decorative moulding, worktops and furniture.

Are Table Saws Dangerous?

Any power tool can be dangerous if used improperly. Evolution Table Saws are fitted with multiple safety features to help ensure safe and accurate cutting, articulating blade guards, workpiece clamps, effective dust extraction and push sticks are all standard fitments on Evolution Table Saws.

How many types of Table Saw are there?

Table Saws can be categorized according to how they are installed or the features that they include. Basically there are three types, portable – that are fitted with wheels for easy transportation between workshop and jobsite, Fixed – for permanent use in a workshop and Bench Mount – which can either be permanently fixed in a workshop or transported to the jobsite.

Fixed Table Saws come in a number of different configurations depending on cost and size with the heaviest and most expensive Cabinet Saws offering CNC controlled sliding beds and cut control.

What is a Table Saw?

A Table Saw comprises a horizontal metal platform with a rotating circular saw blade that can be adjusted for cut height and angle. They are designed for cutting sheet materials and other forms with at least one flat side. Table Saws are designed for Rip and Cross Cuts, (with and across the grain respectively). Table Saws are usually just for cutting wood and plastics, Evolution Table Saws can all cut Mild-steel and non-ferrous metals in addition to new and reclaimed wood and plastics and composite materials.

Evolution Table Saws have adjustable blade height so you can set different cut height for full and partial depth (trench) cuts. They can also angle the blade to provide accurate Bevel cuts and include Mitre Guides/sliding bed inserts that allow for compound cuts.

Table saws are particularly good at making long straight cuts with a high degree of accuracy.

We do not recommend Table Saws are as being suitable for cutting masonry and Ceramic products, though we have seen customer make these cuts with a smooth radius diamond blade.

All Evolution Table Saws use a 255mm (10”) blade. This allows us to offer a maximum depth of cut to suit almost all cutting tasks while still being able to optimize the motor for power delivery and maximum cutting torque to ensure smooth, precise cuts in all materials.

How does the Parallel Fence work on a Table Saw?

The Parallel Side Fence provides a backstop to ensure that the workpiece stays at a set sideways distance from the blade during a cut; this ensures a straight and even cut. On Evolution Saws these can be positioned on either side of the saw blade to facilitate easy material handling and accurate cuts.

Are Table Saw blades universal?

When choosing a blade for your saw you need to make sure that you match the correct blade diameter, Kerf width, rotation direction, arbor size and max speed rating so they are not universal. Evolution saws are designed to be used with Evolution blades only and are not warrantied for use with third party blades which may not be made to the same specification as our blades. Using the wrong blade can damaged your saw and puts you at risk of injury, please only use Evolution
blades on your Evolution saw.

Can Table Saw blades be sharpened?

Evolution Table Saw blades use Tungsten Carbide Teeth, these can be sharpened by a specialist saw sharpener with the correct diamond polishing equipment. On larger blades, this can be cost-effective, on blades 255mm and smaller it is unlikely to be more economical as replacing the blade.

How long will my blade last?

Blade life depends on the material being cut, the harder the material the shorter the blade life will be. Evolution only uses premium, Japanese sourced carbide in our saw blades. It’s better finished, tougher and longer lasting than more commonly used carbide grades.

Cleaning the teeth of your blade, especially if cutting exterior grades of wood will help to keep your blade running cleanly by removing sap and resin build up. We recommend using a cloth dampened with spray-on automotive brake cleaner to keep your blades in pristine condition.

What is the best saw for making furniture?

If you need to make straight and deep cuts longer than 300mm we recommend a Table Saw and the RAGE5-S has the an platform support size for handling cuts in full size 8x4 foot sheets. For cuts below 300mm and for complex compound Bevel/Mitre cuts you can use a Mitre Saw.
