From Rubble to Recovery: A Garden Built for What Matters
A three-day garden transformation that became something far more meaningful. Follow Zoe’s story as Mark and Evolution bring a space back to life, creating somewhere to rest, recover and rebuild. The first project in our Build What Matters series.
In just three days, one garden, and one story, was transformed into something far more meaningful.
A moment that changed everything
When Mark knocked on Zoe’s door, camera in hand, she wasn’t expecting what came next.
“The moment I opened my door and saw Mark standing there, I was completely stunned. I’ve been dreaming of that moment since 2024, and suddenly it was real. I felt such an overwhelming rush of relief and emotion, knowing something truly special was about to happen”
- Zoe
What followed wasn’t just a garden makeover. It was the start of something much bigger.
Meet Zoe

Before the build began, there was a story.
For Zoe, the past year had been anything but straightforward. Like many homeowners, she had been working through a full house renovation, focusing all her time and energy on making the inside of her home liveable. The garden had to wait.
But then came something far more difficult. In January this year, Zoe was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Suddenly, what had already been a challenging renovation became something much heavier, both physically and mentally. The idea of transforming the run down and tired outdoor space into a relaxing garden felt further out of reach than ever.
“The past 16 months have been a whirlwind… sitting outside surrounded by rubble and weeds was never the peaceful sanctuary I’d imagined.” - Zoe
And that’s exactly why this project mattered. Not just to improve a space - but to create somewhere that could support her through what comes next. This project, supported by Evolution, was about changing that.
Why Zoe?
When it came to choosing the project, Zoe’s story stood out.
"One of our dedicated YouTube subscribers has an aggressive type of breast cancer, and it meant that an operation and a dose of chemotherapy were needed to get rid of it. Now, as you can imagine, we were gutted. This person has supported me for such a long time, and knowing that she was going through a difficult time was a bitter pill to swallow. Then, Evolution Power Tools approached me and tasked me with building a garden that matters. And when I found out that comment was from Zoe, I knew exactly what to do."
- Mark Marshall
From social to real life
This journey began weeks earlier, when Mark launched the project across his social channels, inviting people to share their stories. Zoe’s stood out. When Mark met her in person for the first time, her reaction said everything. What had started as a digital moment suddenly became very real.
And from that moment on, the mission was clear: Build something that truly matters.
A belief that sits at the heart of everything we do at Evolution.

The plan: Four zones, one transformation
With just three days to complete the project, the team designed the garden around four key areas:
- A porcelain patio for everyday use
- A fence and gate to redefine the space
- A pergola and resin pathway for structure and flow
- A landscaped pond area to bring calm and life back into the garden
Each zone had its own purpose, but together, they would create something far more powerful.
Zone 1: Laying the foundations

The transformation started from the ground up.
Once the area was cleared and prepped, the team began laying a new porcelain patio, designed not just to look good, but to create a usable, welcoming space.
A curved edge detail added a softerÏ, more natural feel to the layout. To achieve this, the team used an angle grinder fitted with a non-segmented blade. But as the build progressed, other tools came into play. A cordless disc cutter was used to precisely cut back the existing concrete base, while a cordless paddle mixer kept mortar flowing quickly and consistently as the patio took shape. Cordless tools kept the build moving efficiently, without the noise, fumes or downtime typically associated with petrol alternatives.
It was the first glimpse of how the space, and the project, was coming together.
Zone 2: Rebuilding the boundaries

Next came a new fence and gate, bringing structure, privacy and definition back to the garden. Mark wanted to ensure that Zoe felt safe in the knowledge that Zoe's dog, Luna, could wonder around the garden without the possibility of escaping.
Using a double bevel mitre saw, Mark cut fence posts and slats to size with speed and accuracy. One standout moment came when the saw powered straight through a post - nail and all - demonstrating the kind of multi-material cutting performance that’s designed for real-world jobs.
Elsewhere in the same zone, the cordless disc cutter proved its versatility again - cutting a clean line through an old concrete driveway, and even slicing through an unexpected clay drainage pipe discovered beneath the surface.
Moments like these weren’t planned, but they showed exactly what tools need to handle on real projects.
Zone 3: Creating a space to escape

With the structure in place, attention turned to creating a destination within the garden.
A pergola was built as a focal point, a place to sit, reflect and unwind. Leading to it, a resin pathway added a clean, modern finish while improving access across the space. Timber posts were cut using a cordless mitre saw, keeping the build efficient and flexible throughout.
Then came another unexpected moment: cutting the metal edging for the resin path. Initially unsure if it would handle the material, Mark put the disc cutter and the mitre saw to the test, and again they delivered. A perfect reminder of the kind of cutting capability that’s redefining what Evolution cordless tools can handle on site.
Zone 4: Restoring calm

The final zone brought everything together.
A pre-existing pond was transformed into a calming water feature, surrounded by planting and natural textures. The addition of a waterfall introduced movement and sound, turning the space into somewhere that felt alive again. Mark aimed to create a peaceful water feature, hoping to bring Zoe a sense of serenity throughout this challenging time.
This part of the project wasn’t about tools.
It was about feeling.

The reveal
After three days of work, the transformation was complete. And then came the moment everything had been building towards.
“When I opened my eyes and saw my garden, I was completely blown away. What they achieved in just 3 days is beyond anything I ever imagined possible. I’ve honestly been sitting on my swing crying happy tears ever since. Knowing I now have such a beautiful sanctuary to rest, recover, and heal in fills me with so much peace and gratitude.” - Zoe

For Zoe, this wasn’t just a new garden. It was a place to heal. To rest. To look forward. A space that finally matched what she had imagined all along. Throughout Zoe’s battle, she has been surrounded by friends, family, and community; Mark brought all three together for the grand reveal.
Before and after

What started as rubble, weeds and unfinished ground is now a fully realised outdoor space, designed for living, not just looking at.

Built with the right tools for the job
While this project was about people first, the right tools played their part in bringing it to life:
Cordless disc cutter R260DCT-Li – clean, controlled cuts across concrete, pipe and metal
Cordless Mitre saw R255SMSDB-Li – accurate, repeatable cuts through wood and metal
Cordless Paddle Mixer – keeping mortar and resin preparation fast and consistent
Reciprocating Saw – quick, adaptable cutting for smaller on-site tasks
Heavy Duty Gazebo - 4-season weatherproof for protection from the elements 365 days of the year
Used alongside other specialist tools where needed, it’s a reminder that great results come from using the right tool for the job.
Build What Matters
At Evolution, we believe that the tools we build should enable something bigger. Not just cutting, shaping or construction - but real change.
This project is a reflection of that belief.
A reminder that when the right people, the right tools and the right purpose come together - you can build something that truly matters.
This project is the first in a series, each one focused on real people, real challenges, and meaningful transformations.
Because building isn’t just about materials or measurements.
It’s about what those builds enable.
