Build What Matters: Building a Space for Our People
A rebrand isn’t just about how things look.
It’s about how they feel - to the people who use them every day.
As part of the launch of our Build What Matters philosophy, we wanted to start from the inside out. Before new colours rolled out across our website, before logos appeared on screens and packaging, we focused on something closer to home: the space where our people work.
The second floor of our UK headquarters in Sheffield - the Steel City - is home to our European web team, marketing team, and finance team. It’s where ideas are shaped, decisions are made, and collaboration happens daily. And it was ready for change.
The first phase of the project wasn’t decorative - it was structural.
Builders stripped the floor back completely. Outdated furniture and décor were removed. A large dividing wall that had run down the centre of the office - blocking light and splitting the space - was taken down. Several old offices were demolished so the layout could be reworked for a growing team.
What emerged was a lighter, brighter, more open and usable working environment, rebuilt with collaboration and comfort in mind.
Where possible, the builders used Evolution tools as part of the job. Carpet tiles lifted with a multitool. Wood and metal joists and panels were cut using our circular saws and mitre saws, featuring our multi-material blades. Newly plastered walls sanded smooth with a drywall sander. Tools doing what they’re designed to do - practical, reliable, and built for real work.

Meet the Maker: Dot
Once the space was rebuilt, it was time to bring it to life.
Dot is a DIY creator who turned renovating her own home into a career, sharing how to use power tools with confidence and showing that building things yourself doesn’t have to feel intimidating. What began as documenting home transformations has grown into helping others - from renovating friends’ spaces to spending time in the workshop with her dad, making things from scratch.
At the heart of Dot’s work is the belief that DIY is learned by doing - and that confidence comes from picking up the tools and having a go.

“I think a lot of people are capable of far more than they realise - they just need permission to try.”
That mindset made her the perfect person to help us translate Build What Matters into something physical.
Four Projects. One Purpose.
Rather than a single statement piece, Dot completed four installations across the floor, each one adding meaning, not just decoration.
A Timeline You Can Add To
The first piece was a timeline built from plywood and CLS - designed to celebrate the milestones in our global e-commerce expansion. It’s a space where achievements and memories can be added over time. A reminder that our story is still being written.

A Logo Built Screw by Screw
Next came a bold interpretation of our new logo. Around 750 metal screws, driven into a wooden panel painted in our new brand blue, form the mark. The screws - deliberately chosen - represent our multi-material roots and our connection to metal cutting. It’s not printed. It’s built.

Celebrating the Blades That Built the Brand
In the largest team meeting room, Dot installed eight picture-box frames - each displaying one of our blades. Quiet and purposeful, they tell the story of what we make without needing explanation.

Lighting the Way Forward
For a smaller meeting room, Dot created a light-up wooden sign. A mitred timber frame surrounds a suspended plywood panel, CNC-cut with our Build What Matters logo. Hidden LED lighting behind the panel brings it to life when switched on - a subtle focal point that changes the feel of the room.

Why This Matters
This project wasn’t about showcasing tools or creating something perfect.
It was about people.
Build What Matters is a belief in making things with lasting impact - not just products, but relationships, partnerships, and communities. This part of that story is about our people. Creating a space where teams feel comfortable, inspired, and valued. Somewhere colleagues want to be, collaborate, and do their best work.
“There’s nothing exclusive about DIY - it’s a skill anyone can learn with the right tools and a bit of encouragement.” Dot
The same applies to building a company culture. It doesn’t happen overnight, and it isn’t finished. It’s built - piece by piece - by the people inside it.
Built From the Inside Out
From demolition to rebuild. From blank walls to meaningful details. This project marks one of the first physical expressions of our new brand.
This wasn’t a top-down redesign. The space was shaped in collaboration with the people who use it every day.
Built by hand.
Built for the people who work here.
Built to matter.
