Meet the Maker – Will Head Workshop Tour
About 20 years ago Will Head was living with his brother in Australia, with nothing to do during the day. The only thing he had on hand was woodworking magazines and tools. He read up, tooled up and started making furniture for his brother.
Now he's making furniture back in Surrey, England. He is here to show us his workshop and the projects and tools that have defined his years of woodworking.
Will works with just about anything from wood, metal and resins and he will make just about anything too. He is currently working with a lot of oak barrels and has created a wood store to store them in. This saves space in his workshop and keeps his wood dry and away from the usual wet British weather.
Whilst the wood store is impressive it pales in comparison to Will's workshop. He transformed a small shed into a fully formed workshop and filled it with every tool he needs.
Will has done a really great job making this workshop feel like his own. However, this workshop didn't come easy and plenty of challenges arose when he set up his workshop. He had to lift a huge, heavy wall all by himself and come up with a unique way to manage the dust around his workshop. Setting up a hose system all around the workshop Will no longer has to worry about dust when he is working.
It's important to Will to keep the woodworking tradition in his family alive. He does this by keeping all his grandfather's hand tools, using the same tools he used 50 years ago. Whilst Will likes using hand tools he has to admit it's hard to beat the strength and ease of a power tool. The Evolution R255SMS+ is Will’s power tool of choice, it’s been an integral part of many of his projects. He currently has a general wood blade in the saw which makes his finer furniture jobs run smooth.
Will knows his stuff, if you want to get his advice on how to get started with DIY then watch this interview here.

Experience Van Life with Adam Lincoln
Van Life is the new craze and it's easy to see why. Exploring new places whilst taking the comfort of our home with us sounds perfect. The focus of our next feature, Adam Lincoln, uses his business to help others start their van life journey.
Adam’s van (named Horace) got so much good feedback that Adam wanted to share his talents with others. Adam recounts that the process of making his van was similar to renovating a house. With the help of Evolution Tools Adam was able to successfully build Horace and now he helps others do the same.
Adam often uses his Evolution Tools when cutting lightweight plywood. The tools leave the plywood with a great finish and make the task easy. With more work on the way, his next steps involve some upgrades and additions to his Evolution Tools. A table saw and an upgraded chop saw are towards the top of his list.
Located in Derbyshire, Adam has the peak district at his doorstep, perfect for quick trips out in the van. But that doesn’t limit Adam, with his van any location in the UK is a drive away whilst keeping the comfort of his home.

Interview with The Carpenter’s Daughter – How She Started by House Renovations.
Our guest this episode is Vikkie Lee who you may know as The Carpenter's Daughter. She is a DIY blogger and YouTuber whose focus is to pass on knowledge and help people save money when doing DIY. You may also know her from BBC One’s Right on the Money. She joined us in the studio today to talk about what inspired her and how you can get started with DIY.
It can be intimidating to get started with DIY but Vikkie is proof that as long as you take it a step at a time anyone can do DIY. We asked Vikkie what inspired her to start the channel and woodworking in general? She got her inspiration from her parents, they’d do house renovations and seeing them do it inspired her. Then she taught herself on the basics by absorbing in as many YouTube videos as she could find on the topic. She decided to give back to the community and create her own videos to pass on the knowledge further. Her goal is for her audience to "find out they've got a project in them they don't realise".
She says she wants her audience to “find out they’ve got a project in them they don’t realise”.
We then discuss her channel name 'The Carpenter's Daughter'. Despite her name, it took her years to follow in her father's footsteps and start woodworking. She even recalls being a young child and practising sawing and giving up after about a minute.
Vikkie also talks about when things do go wrong and how you shouldn’t be discouraged. You will be able to overcome it and learn from it. She recommends starting small and after your confidence has grown then go bigger. If you want someone who knows what it's like to start woodworking and house renovations. Or just someone who will inspire you to get started with DIY then this is perfect for you.
Product Design Guru: Lee Price shows us the Track Saw
Next up we have Product Design Guru: Lee Price. He will show you the benefits of using a track saw and how it's different from using a circular saw. If you're working on large sheets of plywood and are in need of accurate repeat cuts the track saw is a must-have. If you’re considering a Track Saw or want to get the most out of the one you have then this is a feature worth watching.
Simply place the workpiece down, position the track and get cutting. This isn't just another Circular Saw. The track will prevent the saw from going off course and will keep your cuts straight.
You can fine-tune the space between the saw and the track and your cuts will be clean and accurate. The track has no slip friction slips, so for most applications, you won't even need to use clamps. Let your track do the work. Where the line goes that’s your cut, there's no messing about with this track saw.
It does most of what a Table Saw can do but it makes moving around the job site easy due to its portability and size. Its size also makes it easy to store, it won't take up much space in the workshop at all. It’s also easy to do long mitre cuts with the track saw. You can do a 45° cut through a long plank of plywood, that’s something you can’t do with a mitre saw. If you need more length for your projects you can add on some extra track. Lock them together and make the track as long as you need.
Lee has shown us the use of Track Saws, they are a valuable addition to any workshop. If you want to know even more about the specifics of a Track Saw then click here for the full guide.

Am I the only person who can’t watch the extra content eg how to make the coffee table because the website wants you to be signed up for emails to be able to do so, but it doesn’t recognise that I am already signed up for emails? Furthermore, I have since signed up again about 6 or 7 more times and each time it seems to go into a repeating cycle of demanding me to sign up again, then again again! Life’s too short! If you want me to watch your videos, please sort the glitch out or I’ll get bored and watch something else!
Dave Stevens
Great start to what looks to be avery interesting project, it would be good to see “how to make” features, also “how to get the get the tools set up correctly” sort of things. I look forward to the next edition.
Thanks
