A DIY Garden Fort Built to Last

We teamed up with Liam & Nici from Two Houses Into One to show you how to build a garden fort using reclaimed materials, a £30 slide and a few key cordless tools. Get inspired with a fun, sustainable build for the whole family - watch the full project and see how it came together.

A Creative Collaboration with Liam & Nici Linley (Two Houses Into One)

Earlier this year, we teamed up with the couple behind the rising DIY channel Two Houses Into One for a special summer collaboration. Their mission? Transform two neighbouring houses into one family dream home. They’re tackling it with heart, hustle and a lot of power tools.

DIY Inspiration: How to Build a Garden Fort

For our collaboration, Liam and Nici set out to build a garden fort - something imaginative and exciting for their children (and the neighbours' kids too). What made the project really stand out was their use of reclaimed materials. From old decking to salvaged joists, they gave new life to old timber and created a fun, sustainable space that encourages outdoor play.

The best part? The whole build came together for just £30 - thanks to a well-scored slide on Facebook Marketplace and the right tools for the job.

You can follow along as Liam and Nici talk through each step of the build in the video below, sharing practical tips and get a behind-the-scenes look at how it all came together.

Meet the Makers

Liam and Nici Linley have lived in their current home for over ten years. A couple of years ago, they had the opportunity to purchase their next-door neighbour’s house, with the goal of knocking the two properties together to create their dream forever home. They launched their DIY channel in May 2024, and it’s quickly gained impressive traction.

Curious to see their plans for the house? You're not alone! This Instagram post showcases the floor plans behind their ambitious project.

Currently a family of four - with a fifth on the way - they’ve built deep roots over the past decade on their street in Barnsley, creating a strong sense of community.

Liam brings hands-on experience from his time as an electrician, which naturally led him into joinery, plumbing, and broader DIY work. Nici’s strengths lie in her eye for design and creative flair, which shine through in their projects.

Tools That Brought It All Together

To bring the fort to life, Liam & Nici relied on a few of Evolution's most trusted cordless tools:

Cordless double bevel sliding mitre saw 255mm (R255SMS-DB-Li):
This saw was the hero product of this build, making over 100 cuts with ease. It's multi-material cutting technology powered through all timber - even pieces with embedded nails - making it the perfect choice for working with reclaimed wood.

Cordless combi drill & impact driver (R13CMB-Li & R180IDR-Li):
The ultimate cordless combo delivered speed, control, and efficiency throughout the build - whether drilling pilot holes or driving screws into stubborn timber.

Cordless circular saw 185mm (R185CCSX-Li):
A compact, brushless circular saw compatible with track systems. Perfect for making long, straight cuts and trimming misaligned edges cleanly.

Why This Project Matters

At Evolution, we believe the best DIY projects are the ones that bring people together. This collaboration wasn’t just about showcasing tools - it was about supporting a young family, celebrating sustainability with the smart reuse of materials, and encouraging hands-on creativity at home.

We’re proud to support Liam and Nici as they continue to grow their channel and transform their home, one project at a time.
